I am not disappointed with This Addiction because my expectations were kind of low going in. I skipped Crimson and Agony & Irony because I didn’t really like the more polished sound, so this album is a welcome development. I’d say that this most reminds me of LTJ’s GNV FLA – an erstwhile “return to form” album that reminds me of what I loved in a band, but doesn’t quite match up to the past standard. I think this is due to the nostalgia factor and the fact that I’ve gotten a bit more critical having heard so much more music.

Gotta say i’m not dissapointed and really like the new album, much as i’ve loved pretty much everything since Good Mourning ( i liked them before this but that album was the turning point for me), then again i never expect the veteran punk bands that still wander the earth to recreate their youthful glory, much as my expectations of a night out now are less than compared to what they were twenty years ago!

I’ve kept listening to this hoping for it to grow on my, but still hasn’t. It does sound too much like Dan’s solo work, Heavens, Matt’s solo work and Alkaline Trio all rolled into a complete mess. They did rock live at the Metro, playing 3 or 4 songs from this record, but mostly the goodies from old.
