Friends Of Friends – Deep Search
The first time I tried to listen to Deep Search was on my way to the local animal shelter last fall after the second of our two cats had died in the space of less than one calendar month. Needless to say, I wasn’t “feeling it” back then and every time I considered listening to (Read more…)
CYSTSFTS has a Facebook page
Did you know that Can You See the Sunset now has a Facebook page? Well, we do. Become a fan or like it or whatever they call it now to follow updates and more… There are also so many great bands from Chicago so I’d also like to put out a call for local bands (Read more…)
Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) – What It Takes To Move Forward
Oh time you are such a fickle bitch. The way your never ending pull distorts what once was and colors what now is never fails to fuck with how we all perceive things. Did I ever mention that way WAY back when my email address was something like emokid2121@hotmail.com? I’m not embarrassed to admit it (Read more…)
Rocky Votolato – True Devotion
In my mind, Rocky Votolato has always been severely underrated when it comes to the wide-open genre of singer/songwriters. His last three albums, Suicide Medicine, Makers, and The Brag & Cuss are great as is the just recently released True Devotion. All of Votolato’s songs bleed with honesty even if sometimes to a fault and (Read more…)
Everyone Everwhere MP3 Blog Tour
I’m pretty thrilled that I get to be part of the Everyone Everywhere MP3 Blog Tour celebrating the release of the upcoming self-titled full-length from Philadelphia’s Everyone Everywhere. The “tour” began yesterday and runs through the record’s May 4th official release date with 10 great blogs giving away every song from the album (in order) (Read more…)
Can you hear the podcast from the Southside 07: a few good songs (or) what does your dream home look like
See, I told y’all I’d be back sooner (and not later) with another one of these and I think this one’s a winner. No fancy interviews or anything like that; I’m not nearly “with it” enough to plan and coordinate ahead of time. It’s just me, some booze, a microphone, and some great music. Enjoy. (Read more…)
Nakatomi Plaza – Ghosts
Having never before heard anything from Nakatomi Plaza and considering just how good their final album Ghosts is, I’m actually a bit disappointed that the band recently called it quits. While that means I won’t have a chance to see ‘em live, I do know that I’ll be digging around through their other releases. On (Read more…)
Aloha – Home Acres
I don’t think Aloha gets enough credit for being as good a band as they are. Their latest full-length, Home Acres, was just released on Polyvinyl Records and it feels like a natural progression to the mesmerizing and complex indie pop of Some Echoes and Light Works. Again, drummer Cale Parks’ jazzy percussion and vibes (Read more…)
Pianos Become The Teeth – Old Pride
On Old Pride Baltimore, Maryland’s Pianos Become The Teeth puts an interesting and refreshing spin on screamo by fleshing out their chaotic bursts and screamed vocals with atmospheric post-rock and what could almost be called straightforward hardcore (or at least post-hardcore) with moments that even remind me of what you might hear on early 90’s (Read more…)
