Dear Landlord – Dream Homes
Mark my words, Dear Landlord’s new album, Dream Homes, will end up somewhere near the top of my best of 2009 year end list. Despite the simplicity, it’s that good. It isn’t a complicated album, but Dream Homes is played with the kind of conviction and intensity that’s rarely displayed on a debut full-length regardless (Read more…)
The Swaggerin’ Growlers – Keep Your Head Held High
I’m trying to get this post in before it’s time for me to be on baby duty for the evening. Here goes: The Swaggerin’ Growlers’ second album Keep Your Head Held High picks up right where their last one, The Bottle And The Bow, left off. The Boston based band has again filled an album (Read more…)
Leathermouth – XO
Leathermouth’s debut full length XO was released earlier this year and is full of raw hardcore punk that’s fast, furious, and full of anger. It’s an abrasive 10 song album that recalls old-school hardcore but with screeching (mostly) incomprehensible vocals. Much of XO ends up sounding a what a suicide bomber might sound like if (Read more…)
The Reptilian – Boy’s Life EP
I’ve been to Kalamazoo, Michigan a few times (mostly to drink Bells beer) and can easily imagine The Reptilian calling the city home. I mean, I can certainly hear a bit of Kalamazoo on The Reptilian’s latest offering, the Boy’s Life EP. Reverse The Curse – Paths EP
Reverse The Curse is a band from Hiram, OH and if their self-released 5 song EP Paths from last year is any indication of things to come, these guys might be huge. With a sound ranging from gruff and gravelly melodic post-hardcore that’s almost like pop-punk to dark brooding sing-a-longs that wouldn’t sound out of (Read more…)
Annabel – Each And Everyone
Last summer I wrote some nice things about Annabel’s promising debut EP Now That We’re Alive and I’m glad to find the band hasn’t missed a beat and hasn’t really shaken things up too much with their recently released full-length Each And Everyone. Again, the Kent, Ohio band’s melodic indie-pop sounds breezy but layered and (Read more…)
Pop Punk Junk Vol. 2
So here’s round two of what might be a never ending stream of pop punk coming out of my speakers. I wasn’t going to include the China Drum song this early in the series, but a message from my guy Jeff (of the great Rocket Fuel podcast) the other day about the band prompted me (Read more…)
Drag The River – Bad At Breaking Up
How have I seriously not written anything about the latest Drag The River record Bad At Breaking Up? I mean, I love this band. Okay, here’s a few quick words for you to read as you listen to the songs below and head over to Suburban Home Records to get a copy for yourself. Drag (Read more…)
