Review: The Hold Steady – Stay Positive
Even though The Hold Steady’s new album Stay Positive has been out awhile and seemingly everyone has already written a review of the album, I figured now would be as good (or bad) a time as any to throw in my two cents. I mean, better late than never, right? And remarkably appropriate for me (Read more…)
New music from Catfish Haven
I love me some Catfish Haven so just like Stereogum reported yesterday, I’m here to tell you that Chicago’s own indie-soul rockers Catfish Haven just released the first single from their upcoming album Devastator. Tim will most certainly enjoy this one much more than either Amy or Emily. They just don’t get it. Anyhow, Catfish (Read more…)
Reviews: Fuck Buttons – Street Horrrsing
There is no way that Street Horrrsing should be as good as it is. It is repetitive, abrasive, and just plain noisy electronic music. It is also oddly calming and surprisingly melodic. Think of Fuck Buttons as the softer side of Black Dice perhaps. On Street Horrrsing revolves around chuggingly distorted and repetitive synth drones (Read more…)
It came from the nineties (Vol. 28)
If it seems like it has been awhile since I’ve put one of these “from the nineties” things together, it has. I (however) figured that being the lazy Sunday afternoon that it is, today would be the perfect opportunity to get back on track with this one. Besides, I knew you were all dying to (Read more…)
Review: The Infamous Stringdusters – The Infamous Stringdusters
You caught me. I’ve been listening to the new self-titled album from the critically acclaimed bluegrass group The Infamous Stringdusters. Bluegrass WTF? Just wait a minute. On their new album the band straddles the line between traditional bluegrass, new-grass jams, and even veers a little into country pop territory. I know what you are thinking (Read more…)
Review: The Night Marchers – See You In Magic
Do you like the devil’s rock-and-roll music? If you do and then you need to check out See You In Magic, the latest from The Night Marchers. Who? Yes. The Night Marchers consist of frontman John Reis (ex-Drive Like Jehu, Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes, etc…) and a few of his Hot Snakes bandmates (Read more…)
Day Nine Without Mommy (the last one)
I just want to tell you that I’m sorta addicted to Twitter now even though it really has nothing to do with our last day without Amy at home. What is relevant (however) is that Hailey was a bit on the edgy/irritable side today; a sure sign that she is really missing her mommy. We (Read more…)
Day Eight Without Mommy (A Mix)
Eight days already? Has it really been that long? It is a bit hard to believe that me and Hails have been “on our own” for this long. Let’s just say that if we said we wanted mommy to come home, that would be a huge understatement. Huge. Earlier this week while I was giving (Read more…)
Review: The Weepies – Hideaway
This ain’t punk so stop reading now. Still reading? Okay. Good. This is the story of how singer-songwriters Steve Tannen and Deb Talan met, started writing songs, fell in love, got married, and had a baby boy named Theo. It is also the story of how these two talented musicians (together) as The Weepies have (Read more…)
