Can you see the sunset's chicago mixtape -

Now I realize that it wasn't really a throwdown when Chris from Gorilla Vs. Bear said he thought Austin has the best music scene in the country, but I just couldn't resist the challenge. There are a ton of great bands coming out of Austin right now, but what about Chicago?

Chicago has such a great and vibrant music scene that easily ranks up there with anyone else's. So I present you with 'Can You See The Sunset's Chicago Mixtape' featuring twenty songs by some of my favorite Chicago bands, but there are so many more. In reality this is only the tip of Chicago's massive musical iceberg.

Give me a week or two, and I'll get a mixtape from my hometown -- Liverpool.

We'll throw down, transatlantic style.

Although this is a sick piece of mixtapery. Kudos.

minor minor rant: TAN! is from ferndale, MI (which is technically detroit)

but i love this mix. good shit. and i think i will be doing a michigan mixtape because obviously, michigan has THE BEST music scene ever. (it's not just in lansing. it's not just in detroit. it's EVERYWHERE!)

4. Get Up - Self-Titled
5. Off Key Chior - Emmet Swimming
6. Counting Down The Hours - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
7. Deserve - Rubin Kinkaid
8. Hooch - Everything
9. These Things - Bicycle Thieves
10. The Boxer - Carbon Leaf
11. Waiting Room - Fugazi
12. Soul Parking - Graverobbers
13. Seether - Veruca Salt
14. Die Another Day - Viki Nova
15. Who You Wit' - Nick Fury
16. Long Distance Dedication - Metropolitan

18. Band Shocking - Exit Clov
19. Help Me Sleep - Mike Holden

To your Chicago list, you can also add...

The M's, Assassins, Bon Mots, Eve Destruction, M.O.T.O., Tyrades, Baseball Furies, Cococoma, Hot Machines, The Interiors, Moxie Motive, The 1900's, Baby Teeth, The Safes, Sybris, The Record Low, Camaro Rouge, Headache City, Justin Sconza (of Walter Meego), Alexander Sands, Pit Er Pat, Miss Alex White, Bang! Bang!, Ladies & Gentlemen, The Dirty Things, Chin Up Chin Up, Canasta, Siderunners, New Black, 90 Day Men, The Redwalls, Detholz!, The Dials, Functional Blackouts, Office, Submarine Races, etc.

There is no doubt that Chicago has the most fruitful and diverse rock and roll scene in the world in the last three years. It simply buries everyone else. Austin, I would say, is second, and then probably NY.
