What's in a name? -

After buying a baby-name book, I am convinced that I should publish a book full of "unique" and "interesting" sounding names. Out of the twenty-thousand names the book contained there are probably only about a dozen that are actually suitable names for children. The first section of my name book will be "Names from household objects." Table, Chair, Step, Floor, Planter, Closet, Cupboard, Sink. Only 19,992 more names to go. It's really that easy!!!
I am also positive that all my realtives want to drive us crazy with their ridiculous name suggestions. It is because of them that I am thankful we are not having a boy. In all seriousness though, we can't think of a baby name and are open to suggestions.
Last week I caught the last 15 minutes of a PBS special that featured the music of Phil Spector, among others, and consequently have had "Da Doo Ron Ron" stuck in my head for the last few days. I am sharing that gift with you. The other song is my favorite song from The arcade Fire's debut full-length Funeral. I can only assume that everybody in the entire indie-rock world has heard of them. For those who haven't...

ah the name game. funny you should mention the objects thing. i had an obsession with nouns. i wanted fern, but no dice. i let conor name her anyway. (violet prudence jensen) my favorite book was called cool names for babies. it has less than 20000 names, so its a good start. my favorite chapter was called "old lady chic" good luck.
we had the EXACT same problem except that we couldn't agree on a boys name to save our life!! luckily we did end up having a girl, so it was all swell. you should tell us what names you have already ruled out...that would make it easier to suggest something.
I do love the name Claire though
Sarah made me promise that if (and I mean IF!) we had another girl we would name her Sienna or Sierra. But that'll change, no doubt.
I like Stella. Or Holly. Or Honey.
Faucet (as in Farrah) would totally work as an entry i your "household name" chapter.
Right, now I have to listen to your tunes.
I'm watching your counter go up. Right on.
I love that Arcade Fire song. When the key makes that slight drop in the refrain, it kills me every time.
"Every time you close your eyes..."
i'll post my favorite name of the day, and continue in this endeavor until someone makes me stop.
poppy, ruby, cleo (two nouns, one name)
and cannotbetrusted - in the same vein as sierra and sienna...sonoma? it conjures up the same picture for me.
Kleo is the name of my father's dog. We are tossing around Olivia, Keri, Haley. Don't tell my wife I've shared. We were planning to wallow in naming misery all by ourselves.
funny. i had a cat named clio. ok. i'll keep my naming business to myself...what is it about girls naming babies?
I like Olivia a lot!
i like olivia too. olive was on my list of baby names. (yeah, another noun)
I have a cousin named Olivia. Is that OK? What are the rules about repeating names within a family? Anyone?

well if you're jewish its kind of expected. if anyone else used violet i'd thump them though. my sister used our last name so i think that's fair game for everyone.
you can't play the "don't tell" game here, kiddo. :P
we also - well, "i" also like "callista" or "kalista". that way she can be "callie" or "kali" for short. any takers on that one?
I like callista. I'm kind of anti alternate spellings (my middle name is kathryn), especially because "kali" is a hindu goddess with skulls around her neck. but i do like callista and callie...i really like callie actually. This was my favorite baby naming site.

st~ thanks for the name site! i feel like a cheater using eric's blog site to chit chat with people. yeah, i like "callista" too. i'm already planning marriages for our daughter. i spoke to some people at work today who are having (or possibly having) boys that my daughter can marry. it really got me thinking about those planned marriages. kind of creepy, really.
creepy that they're planned, or creepy that you're thinking about them?
i'll have to say creepy to both. let's pretend the thought never occurred, ok? :)
